All-Nighter Help Needed!

I need help!
Here are the shifts I’m looking for:

Friday 6pm-12am – 4-6 adults

Friday 11pm- Saturday 6am – 2-4 adults

Saturday 5am-11am – 3-5 adults

Schedule and Duties:

Friday night we will be heading to Poelking lanes for 2 hours. I need 3 or 4 at the bowling alley. I will also need 2 or so adults to stay at church and set up some food areas with pop and snacks. If these adults can provide some homemade snacks or donate some that would also be nice.

Overnight we will be playing various high-energy games. Some will need direct leadership from an adult, some will just need supervision. Teens will have low-key hang out and movie time between 2am and 5ish. Supervision during this time will be safety and containment, so we don’t have anyone sneaking off to be alone.

In the morning I need a crew who would be willing to “cook” breakfast. “Cook” is in quotes because breakfast will be frozen waffles and pre-cooked sausage or bacon. I will also need a few bright and cheerful adults to keep the kids engaged in the mornings fun and games.

Recap:
I need you!

Roles:
Leaders – engaged and directive in varying activities
Kitchen – set up food tables, provide snacks
Security – help maintain boundaries

This has been advertised as an opportunity to bring friends…Hopefully this will be an event where kids can interact with each other in a safe, constructive environment and to encounter godly adults who are willing to share their time.

December Happenings

Hey Everybody!!!

So it's almost Thanksgiving and that means its time for an update on the events that will be happening over the next month or so! Here Goes!

Parents Meeting
Sunday December 8th @ 6pm in the youth room.
This meeting is a time to connect with me (Pastor Justin) and hear what's happening with the Teens. Parents, please understand that I want you to be here for the meeting. Your students also want you there, because they have a chance to win something if you go. : )

Salvation Army Service Day
Saturday December 14th @ 11am-8pm
What if 4,000 people showed up at your house on Thanksgiving needing to be fed?
The Salvation Army in Dayton feeds this many and more every Christmas. One of the ways they do this is by raising money through the Red Kettle Bell Ringers. Cheerful, friendly volunteers go a long way to raising the money needed to provide meals.

We will spend 4.5 hours ringing bells and spreading Christmas Cheer and then head to The Salvation Army Kroc Center for a movie, games and pizza. Any student 16 or older can stand at a kettle in groups of 1-3. Students 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult (parent or youth leader). You can either meet at the church at 10:30 or head to a location near your home and meet us at the Kroc center later. Bring $5 to cover pizza...or you could drop $10, $20 or $1,000 in a kettle and we'll call it even.    :-)

Contact Justin for more details or to sign up.

OH BTW any student who serves at this event will receive a voucher for $50 off the Nicaragua Mission Trip.

Summit South
December 15th @ 5pm-8pm

We have been invited to an area Youth Summit called...Summit South! Once per quarter over 300 students gather at an area church for High Energy Worship, Music, Videos, Stage Games and more. We will leave the church a little after 5pm and return around 8pm. This is a great opportunity to hang out with other believers and see what God is doing in the Dayton area.

Awaited: A Christmas Story
TBA @ TBA-TBA :)

This Christmas Musical is off the charts good! Each year Crossroads puts on this production of the Christmas story. Crossroads volunteers do this 18 times between December 15th and the 24th. Before you think this is just another Christmas Cantata, you need to understand that this is Broadway Style...Check out the available media at the site below.

http://www.crossroads.net/my/media/search.php

Tickets are available November 30th and I will get 40 tickets. I will post which date we will attend as soon as I know. Last year we had 35 students and adults go to this one of a kind event. All Students are welcome!

MVWC workday
Saturday December 21st 9:45am-12:15pm

Our monthly service project.

Info Meeting for Nicaragua 2014 GO Trip
Friday December 20th @ 6pm-7:30pm

This informational meeting will cover all aspects of the Trip and will include a traditional Nicaraguan Meal...Monkeys marinated in Snake sauce served over rice and maggots....ok just kidding. But we will eat and its not anything too scary. : )
Attendance at this meeting is required for those who want to go on the trip. But attending the meeting does not commit you to going. Parents should attend WITH their student.

Revolution All Nighter
Thursday and Friday January 2nd and 3rd

Open to all High School Students, this event will be a blast! We will gather at 6pm for registration and food and then we won't stop until we drop!

Games, food, competitions, prizes, music, games, video games, no sleep, games, food, prizes, and games and a field trip.

Cost is $30 per person...unless you bring a friend, in which case you and your friend will only pay $20. If you bring 5 friends each of your friends pays $20 and you go for free.
The definition of a friend in this case is a high school student who has not regularly attended whbc in the last 6 months.

The end time is still being confirmed. It depends on a few of the activities being planned.

Parents...I need some help with running this event. If you are available to chase students (overnight) or hang out with us, please contact Justin. We also need some snacks and breakfasty food (donations keep the cost lower). Contact Justin @ jhoppe@whbc.org

...................................................................................................................................................................

That concludes the events and activities planned for the next few weeks, unless of course I've forgotten something, in which case show up for that event too...

If you're still reading this you deserve a GOLD STAR.

* There you go. That's the best I can do for now. : )

This week's questions

Earlier this week I posted 3 questions we discussed last week. Today I'll post the ones we wrestled with a few days ago.

Didn't evolution put God out of a job? Why believe in religion in an age of Science?

Why is abortion such a big deal? Why can't I make decisions about my own body?

How can I buy into Christianity when there are so many hypocrites? Why are Christians so judgmental when they aren't any better than me?

Parents and Friends, over half of our students claim to have been asked at least ONE of these questions by a friend OR have asked these questions themselves! Take five minutes and ask your student what they learned. Besides our biblical responsibility to "always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks" (1 Peter 3:15) these questions and their answers address foundational truths. If we do not equip our students with the ability to wrestle with these issues and answer these questions we are not doing our job! Too many students move on from their high school years without KNOWING WHY they believe!

My prayer is that we would each take an opportunity to connect with at least one student concerning these issues.

Anyways, Happy Friday!

Questions Christians Hope No One Asks...

Hey there!

The last few weeks we've been discussing some questions that have come out of a book by Mark Mittelberg "Questions Christians Hope No One Will Ask". These questions have stirred significant conversation in out meetings and so I thought I would post them here to encourage further conversation.

1. What makes you so sure that God exists at all - especially when you can't see, hear or touch Him?

2. How could a good God allow so much pain, evil and suffering - or does He simply not care?

3. Why do you condemn homosexuality when it's clear that God made gays and that He loves all people the same?

Like I said we had some great discussions about these topics. It's so incredibly important for us as believers to know why we believe! It's crucial for our own spiritual growth and for the sake of the people who are asking these questions.

1 Peter 3:15-16 and Colossians 4:5-6 make it clear that we are supposed to have an answer.

Come out this week! We're going to look at 3 NEW questions!

See you soon!
