The Challenge
Hey Parents,
So I mentioned in my last post that we were going to be talking about Baptism and that your student would have a chance to respond if they had not yet been baptized...Well, we talked about it today.
I went through the basics of what Baptism is (an ordinance laid out by Christ for the church) and talked about what it symbolizes (Christ's burial and resurrection). Next we talked about how baptism is a beautiful reminder of all that occurred for us when Christ died on the cross and then rose again. We talked about how we die to our old self and are made new. We talked about how we often don't live this way and then looked at how the gospel gives us hope to face the darkness in us and in this world. I explained that when believers obey in baptism God is glorified and the church edified.
To end our time this morning I gave challenges to the 3 "types of students" there today:
1. To those not saved, but who heard the gospel this morning, the challenge was to choose today as the day they accept Christ as Savior and let the Gospel begin to work...followed by baptism.
2. To those saved, but not yet baptized, the challenge was to recognize the command of Christ to be baptized. I reminded them that if they know they ought to do this, but now choose not to then they are quite frankly, sinning.
3. To those already saved and baptized, but not yielding to the gospel in all areas of their lives (that covered the rest of us...including me), the challenge was to begin yielding those areas to Christ.
Parents, I know the decision to baptize or not baptize is a personal one, and that families should make this choice together. I am available to discuss further any concerns you may have. I am in the process of securing a date for a few students who have spoken to me about getting baptized. If you would like your student to be included on this date please let me know as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support and your encouragement.
Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
For His Glory,
Justin

Special note to parents and teens
Hello,
It's 11:45am on Christmas Eve, Eve...I'm sitting at my desk doing some planning for the coming year! I'm so very excited about what 2015 holds for us!
One of the things that I'm really looking forward to is our first series on Sunday Mornings in January. Recently I have been asked several questions about Baptism and if we can have a baptism class for the youth group. Well, rather than run a class at some other time during the week, I have decided to teach my way through the material during Sunday School.
I will cover all the basics of Baptism (what is means, what is does/doesn't accomplish, and obedience). At the end of the "class" students will have the opportunity to sign up for baptism with WHBC, but it would be good if you, as a family, have discussed this already.
Parents, I am asking you to spend some time this holiday season with your students. If they have not been baptized ask them to consider responding in obedience when this series is over. I pray that God would stir in our students hearts and lead them to respond. I pray that through this, they might have an anchor of faith in their minds. If you or your students have questions about baptism or what our process entails, please let me know.
Another exciting event on the horizon is our Winter Retreat! This event is February 6-8th and is open to all New Heights Students. This is a great event and one that will provide life long memories!
Here's a link to Scioto's Website.

PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER ONLINE! I would like to manage our registrations, so that I have an accurate head count. But if your student is planning on going I need to know ASAP.
Wednesday Nights in Jan and Feb will be special!
The youth leaders are prepping your small group topics and lessons! We will meet together at 6:30 for worship and announcements then split into small groups for the rest of the time! This is a great time to grow in the relationships between peers and youth leaders!
Summer 2015 GO Trip
We are officially heading back to Chicago and Breakthrough Ministries. We are close to setting dates, but it looks like mid to late July. All current 8th graders and all high schoolers are invited to join the team. Begin praying about your involvement on the trip and start saving up!
There's a lot more ahead in 2015! It's going to be a great year!
